A bustling fishing town nestled at the heart of the beautiful Beara Peninsula at the foot of the Caha Mountains. "Where land and sea collide, untamed beauty abounds". Boasting one of the finest natural harbours in Ireland, it is the perfect base to explore the flora, fauna and landscapes the Bear Peninsula has to offer.

As one of the five main fishing ports of the whole of Ireland, Castletownbere’s harbour is a hive of activity, bustling with colourful fishing boats. Fishermen land their catches on the local pier before selling their fish to local fish factories for processing or shipping across Ireland and Europe.

Steeped in history, the area has a wealth of evidence that settlers have populated the area for more than 400 years. In the local area you will find many stone circles, standing stone rows, burial tombs, wedge tombs and ring forts for you to explore. The ruins of the Gaelic stronghold of Dunboy Castle are two miles west of Castletownbere for you to visit; it was the site of the famous Seige of Dunboy in 1602.
