You’ll find Skibereen approximately halfway along the Sheep's Head peninsula between Durrus and Kilcrohane in County Cork. It is a vibrant, friendly and fun packed town with a thriving cultural scene. 

The town is known for the colourful buildings and shop fronts, traditional buildings and the range of traditional and contemporary entertainment it has to offer. It holds a host of popular festivals each year, including  ‘Skibbereen Arts Festival’, ‘A Taste of West Cork’ and the ‘Liss Ard Festival’.

The town itself is packed with lively pubs, restaurants, cafés and bars as well as a host of galleries, showcasing the wealth of local artistic talent. It also has a bustling weekly market, packed with the best local produce, crafts and artisan foods. 

The town is steeped in history, with particular links to the Great Famine, which you can learn all about at the Skibereen Heritage Centre or by taking the Skibereen Trail, which leads you through the town, taking in many points of historical and cultural significance. 

From Skibereen, you can explore the spectacular landscape, the natural flora and fauna, and the breath-taking views on offer. You can visit Europe’s only inland saltwater lake, Lough Hyne, or take a walk up Knockomagh Hill for some exercise and some amazing panoramic views.
